Als Peter Fratzschers okkulter Thriller Sieben Monde 1998 in die Kinos kam, befand sich die Welle der Mystery-Produktionen gerade weltweit auf ihrem Höhepunkt. Insofern ist es alles andere als überraschend, dass man beinahe in jedem Moment der Werwolf-Geschichte das Bemühen ihrer Macher spürt, mit der amerikanischen Konkurrenz mitzuhalten. In manchen Momenten gelingt dies Fratzscher und seinem Drehbuchautor Nils-Morten Osburg sogar, doch insgesamt kann man sich kaum des Eindrucks erwehren, dass hier ein Trend ausgenutzt werden sollte. Die Story von Sieben Monde besteht letztlich nur aus den Versatzstücken des Genres, zu denen eine besonders blutige Mordserie genauso wie die bedrohte Schöne, die selbstgefälligen Polizisten, die sinistren Nebenfiguren und der mit seinem Schicksal ringende Held gehören. Fratzscher und Osburg variieren diese klassischen Elemente nur minimal. Alles bleibt erkennbar oder zumindest erahnbar, und mit größeren Überraschungen muss man nicht rechnen.
